pH in milk and yoghurt are regularly checked. Bacteria and proteins present in these can often react with a conventional electrode and severely shorten the electrode lifetime. The pH range of these applications is typically 5.0-7.0 with measurements taken twice per day. It is also convenient if an electrode holds its calibration over this time without drifting.
The KCE11 electrode from Thermo Electron is a plastic bodied electrode, one of the high performance K-Series electrodes. The silver ions of the reference cell are held in a polymer-filled glass coil. This prevents reaction with the sample, which can lead to contamination of the electrode. This patented polymer chemistry also provides exceptionally stable pH readings and low drift.
"We bought this electrode because our old one was getting contaminated too quickly. The KCE11 has a quick speed of response and we are getting good repeatable results. Overall our confidence in our pH readings has increased along with the lifetime of the electrodes," said a customer who measures the pH of goat's milk and yoghurt.
